Good afternoon Bloggy Friends!
I hope you're having a nice day. My week is rolling along quite nicely. We had some pretty bad weather over the course of the week. It snowed pretty heavily Tuesday night, but Wednesday's sunshine helped melt a lot of it away. It was definitely our biggest snow of the season. It's nothing compared to what they've been facing in Kentucky. There are still people without electricity! Let's hope it clears up soon.
I'm about to leave for school, but I wanted to leave you with a little something before I go. Bloggy Friend Bill has made a new video, it's the second part to his glamorous WWII epic on style. He's been working on it for quite a while now, and it shows. It's very, very well made. I hope you enjoy the music and the lovely images. I know I did. Great job, Bill

A Dream Come True.
Happy MLK Day, Bloggy Friends!
I hope you're having a good one. I'm cherishing this day for several reasons. Not only is it the eve of a major historic occasion, but it's also my very last day of winter vacation. Tomorrow I hit the books again! I think it will be a rewarding semester. I'm looking forward to all the new things I'm going to learn.
I am so excited for the inauguration tomorrow. Thankfully, the class that meets during the actual swearing-in decided to cancel. I'll be able to run home to watch his speech before jetting back to campus for my final two classes. It's going to be a lot of hassle, but I wouldn't miss it for the world! It will be such a monumental day in our nation's history. This is the type of progress I live for. I wasn't around when Martin Luther King was preaching out for Civil Rights in the 1960's, but I am proud to say that I am here to see his dream come true. Tomorrow it's happening in a major way. Yes we can!
I know Washington D.C. is seeing a surge in activity right now. Bill and Gary, have you guys noticed a change in the city over the last few days? More traffic? People on the street? An excitement in the air? All eyes are on you guys right now!
Before I leave I want to share with you another video from the wonderfully creative mind of Mr. Bill Fogle. He has made the first part in a video series chronicling gay man's obsession with the past. In the first segment, entitled "High Heels," he talks about his own obsession with the swing era of the 1940's and 50's. It's an interesting topic. Sometimes I find myself fantasizing about what life would have been like in the past, particularly the 1960's. I love the style of that era - the music, the fashion, the colorful, futuristic home decor. It seems like it would have been such an exciting time to be alive.

Meet Me In St. Louis, Louis!
Good Afternoon, Bloggy Friends!
Last night we watched a movie I've been wanting to see for a long time, Meet Me In St. Louis.
It stars the beautiful, Judy Garland, who was just coming off of the gigantic success of the Wizard of Oz. This musical follows a large family living in St. Louis, at the turn of the last century. It encompasses nearly a year, as the family anticipates the arrival of the St. Louis World's Fair the following spring. Judy Garland plays Rose, one of the elder daughters in the family. I don't think she ever looked more beautiful. The plot mainly revolves around Rose and her four brothers and sisters. The older children in the family fall in love, while the younger ones create a hilarious array of mischief. A wrench is tossed into their happy, wholesome lifestyle when their father announces he is going to transport the family to New York for a new job. If you haven't seen it yet, you'll have to watch for yourself to see how it all plays out. I'll bet a Whitney CD that Bill has already seen it!
It's a great film to watch over the holidays, because a major chunk of it takes place over Christmas. The wintery setting inspired so much Christmas spirit in both of us. This is actually where the song, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," originated. It is sung so sweetly by Garland's character Rose. This film is also where one of Garland's most recognizable tunes, "The Trolley Song," comes from. Clang, clang, clang went the trolley. Ding, Ding, Ding went the bell!
So, now I have a new favorite to add to my list. I'm so happy I finally had the chance to check it out. I hope you guys have a fantastic day. I'm so excited for the weekend! I'll chat with you soon.

What We Did This Weekend.
Hey, Bloggy Friends!
I hope you're having a lovely afternoon. It's gorgeous in Philadelphia today. The sun is shining bright. This is a stark comparison to yesterday's weather, when we had a ton of snowflakes falling from the sky. It looked like it would have stuck, but there must not have enough of it to make a difference. Am I a Scrooge for saying I'm not a big fan of the snow? I just don't like to be cold, ya'll.
This has been a nice low-key weekend. Friday I had to work, so we didn't do much that evening besides snuggle up at home in front of a movie.
We were pretty busy Saturday. We started the day running a few errands in Center City. On our trip we decided to stop over at City Hall, where they have Christmas village set up between now and Christmas. It was neat. There are tons of booths which sell a variety of goods, like blown glass decorations, Christmas tree ornaments and various textiles. There are also booths set up selling hot drinks and food. It felt very...Christmas-y. I purchased one of my gifts there. I haven't decided who it's for yet, but I'm sure whoever gets it will love it. Buying one gift sort of put me in the mood to do some more shopping, so we hit the streets looking for some other gift ideas. I ended up getting three other presents out of the way. It feels good! I don't have too much to buy this year, but I'm glad to get somewhat of a start on it.
Later in the evening we went to University City to see Cadillac Records, starring Adrian Brody, Jeffrey Wright and Beyonce Knowles.
Alan was the only white person in the theater, but he's used to that. Most of you know how much I love jazz, and the blues, so you can imagine how excited I was to see this. Brody gives a typically stellar performance as the founder of Chess Records. I was a little surprised to see him in this. He usually does loftier films, but I guess he has to pay the bills everyone else! The colorful cast of characters also include notable Chess artists like Muddy Waters (Wright), Little Walter (Columbus Short), Chuck Berry (Mos Def) and the one and only Etta James (Knowles). I thought Wright did a particularly great job as Muddy Waters. He portrayed him as a very understanding, likable character, despite his womanizing ways. I was a little nervous about how Beyonce would portray Etta James. Etta is one of my favorites. I think she did a pretty decent job. I just have a hard time looking past the fact that she's Beyonce, and I'm kind of tired of seeing her everywhere. I mean, she played "Diana Ross" in Dreamgirls, and now Etta James. Does she have to play every female music legend that ever existed? Did I also mention she was listed as Executive Producer? She did seem fully committed to the character, however. She "let go" a little more in this performance than I remember seeing her do before. She doesn't come in until the second half of the movie, which was also the time the film seemed to usher in bit of unwelcome camp. I don't think it was her fault necessarily, it just started to get a little less good at that point.
The music was my favorite part.
To my knowledge, the entire cast performed the songs on their own. Columbus Short, as the hard-drinking Little Walter, did a fantastic version of "My Baby." Mos Def, one of my favorite hip-hop stars, did a great job as Chuck Berry. He was very comical, as he strutted around the stage like a rooster! Beyonce sang the hell out of her numbers, but I don't think she hit Etta's groove spot on. There was a certain grit that was missed. She did growl, and groan through some of them, though! My favorite Beyonce moment was when she sang, "I'd Rather Go Blind." I love that song. Overall, I really enjoyed the film. I appreciate the fact that films such as these are made to shine a spotlight on how the music I love came to be. If you liked "Ray" or "Dreamgirls," I definitely think you will enjoy this.
Today, Sunday, we got up early to complete the rest of our weekend chores. It's very sunny outside, but the wind is about as chilly as it could possibly be. We're about to start getting ready for my big birthday, karaoke bash tonight. I'm really excited for it. I hope you can make it! I hate to keep going on and on about my birthday, but I received a very special gift this morning that I want to share. Bloggy Friend Bill created a video to celebrate my passage into the 30's. It is so sweet, creative and glamorous. I love it. Thank you so much, Bill. Check it out below!

Thankful 'n Thoughtful
Good Evening Mr. and Mrs. Bloggy Friends!
Well, the long weekend has finally wrapped up, much to my dismay. I take it you have all returned from you weekend getaways, and are geared up for a fresh new week. This will be my last full week of school for this semester. After this, we have a half week, then a week of finals. I am so excited to be finished. This semester has been rewarding, but I'm just over it, plain and simple.
Since I've already blogged about the rest of our Thanksgiving weekend, I'll just finish up by saying we had a delightful Saturday together.
We shopped around the city, picked up some exciting new things for our home and had a delicious dinner. In the later part of the evening we went to the Ritz 5 to see Gus Van Sant's MILK. It is a wonderfully inspiring, heartbreaking movie. One of the best I've seen in a long time. Please get out and see it. Sean Penn was amazing, James Franco was dreamy, and the shots of San Francisco brought back so many fond memories. I miss it so much. Go see it!
Today (Sunday) we were supposed to go with Kelly and Ed to the Valley Green Inn for brunch, but when we woke up it was so rainy we decided to postpone. I think it was a great decision on all of our parts, because the rain held steady all day long.
Instead, we braved the weather to do our usual Sunday chores. Tonight Alan made the most amazing dinner. Jude gave us a recipe from her culinary inspiration, Ida Gartner, called Roasted Mustard Fish. It called for things like capers, shallots, crème fraîche, dijon and whole wheat mustard. It was out-of-this-world. Along with that we had roasted fennel, mashed potatoes (thanks Bill) and a green salad. It was sinfully delicious. Wow. I'm so thankful Alan loves to cook.

Thanksgiving with Bill & Gary
Happy Black Friday, Bloggy Friends!
Well, we had a fantastic time at Bill and Gary's yesterday.
I am so thankful we had the chance to go there this year. The four of us created wonderful Thanksgiving memories to carry all throughout the year. I can't say enough about their truly wonderful hospitality. They were so generous, warm and caring. We immediately felt right at home in their fabulous, cozy home in Washington D.C. It was filled top to bottom with books, eclectic art pieces, and a ton of furry friends to keep our legs warm. I love their sense of style. They have collected so many neat things over the years. Gary has so many books. You wouldn't believe it. I kept finding myself distracted as I browsed the thousands (literally) of titles, and feeling inspired to read more in my own life. I love books.
We drove down Wednesday night. The traffic from here to there was steady, but we didn't find ourselves stalled. We made great time. They welcomed us into their home with a crackling fire, a spread of hors d'oeuvres and an endless supply of red wine. We spent that night relaxing in the study, chatting and watching Bill as he brined the turkey for the next day. It was an interesting process. I had never seen anything like it before. When it was time to retire, Alan, Galileo and I slept cozily in the guest room they prepared so lovingly for us.
The next day was all about the food! When we woke up Bill and Gary were already in the kitchen getting things prepared.
They really worked so tirelessly to get things finished. We started the morning with one of the nicest breakfasts I have ever eaten outside of a restaurant. They prepared one of my favorite dishes - Eggs Benedict! To compliment this little piece of heaven, we were served mimosas and one of Gary's specialties, a fresh fruit salad, loaded with grapes, cherries, pecans, peaches, and an array of plump berries. It was titillating! What a way to start the day.
As the turkey slowly cooked in the oven, we took an hour long walk over to the famous Rock Creek Park. It was an unbelievably beautiful day. The park was gorgeous, and so close to their home. I'm glad we had a chance to do a little site-seeing. It was also nice to work up another appetite after that wonderfully filling brunch.
Well, I can't even think of the words to describe what happened next.
You should have seen the dinner spread they laid before us. They packed the table tight with so much food, I could hardly believe my eyes. We had turkey, whole rainbow trout, two kinds of stuffing, pecan-cranberry relish, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy and a root vegetable salad. A mere description could never do justice to the way it was so beautifully presented. Everything was so fluffy, steamy and fresh. My goodness, I'm getting chills just thinking about it. Bill and Gary went so far out of their way to make this the most absolutely perfect Thanksgiving dinner I could have ever imagined. It was heavenly. For a good hour we sat around the dinner table eating, drinking, chatting and laughing. What more could you ask for?
Pumpkin pie - that's what! When dinner was over, and when our food had some time to settle, Alan brought out a delicious, organic, pumpkin pie he had made. It was fantastic. To conclude our stay we sat around the fire with dessert, warm coffee and a bunch of furry, animal friends. We were becoming so comfortable, that having to leave felt forced and unnatural. Our time with Bill and Gary was starting to feel like a way of life! Thank you guys so very much for everything you did. You truly helped to create what will remain one of our most cherished Thanksgiving memories. I am so thankful.

Our Thanksgiving Plans
Happy Wednesday, Bloggy Friends!
I'm sure you are all excited to wrap up your early week, and rush off to your perspective holiday gatherings.
I've been looking forward to this week for a while now. Not only am I so relieved to have a few days away from school, but I am so excited to spend time with good friends over the next few days. In a few hours Alan, Galileo and I are leaving for a fabulous over-nighter in D.C. Two of our dear Bloggy Friends, Bill and Gary, have been gracious enough to invite us to their home. I am so excited to see them both, and to check out some of this delicious, Julia Child-inspired food we've heard so much about! It sounds like Bill has quite a spread planned. I can't wait to spend time with them both.
Friday we are getting together with Alan's aunt Jude and Uncle Lou. We had Thanksgiving dinner with them last year as well, so I'm hoping we have a little tradition brewing. I cherish every minute I can spend with the two of them, and it's not just because they always feed us well! Mmmm....
As if that wasn't enough eating, we're getting together with our friends, Kelly and Ed, on Sunday. We're going to have brunch at the Valley Green Inn in the Wissahickon Valley. Alan and I went there last year for Thanksgiving, and it was FANTASTIC. We're looking forward to going back. I think Kelly and Ed will love it.
So, that's our itinerary for the 2008 Thanksgiving season.
It's a busy one, but I'm so jazzed about it. We may be running from here to there, but I plan on taking it easy, eating well, and having a few too many merry cocktails.
Let's not lose sight of what Thanksgiving is all about - reflecting on the things we are most thankful for. I have so many things to give thanks about - Alan, my pets, my family, my friends (you), our health, our able-bodiness, my job, my ability to do well in school, our beautiful new apartment and the love that completely surrounds our lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I'm sure you are all excited to wrap up your early week, and rush off to your perspective holiday gatherings.
I've been looking forward to this week for a while now. Not only am I so relieved to have a few days away from school, but I am so excited to spend time with good friends over the next few days. In a few hours Alan, Galileo and I are leaving for a fabulous over-nighter in D.C. Two of our dear Bloggy Friends, Bill and Gary, have been gracious enough to invite us to their home. Something for Saturday.

I hope you're having a nice Saturday. I love getting up when I want to, not having to worry about school work, going to work or any of that other regimental stuff. I feel dizzy with freedom!
Speaking of being dizzy. Here is a new video from our good friend, Bloggy Friend Bill. I've said this before, but this now tops my favorites list! Good work, my friend. You've created magic!
Have a great afternoon. I think we are going to City Hall in a bit to join the Philadelphia Prop. 8 protest. It's raining, but I think it's the least we can do to make our message heard. Gay, Straight, Black or White - We Deserve Civil Rights!

The Leaves of Change.
Hey, Bloggy Friends!
I hope you've had a nice weekend. Ours was nice, and laid back. I shopped a little, got a haircut and took care of our chores. The weather has been absolutely wonderful over the past week. It is definitely fall. I've noticed the leaves on the trees are slowly starting to change. This reminds me that it's right around the time when Alan and I first arrived in Philadelphia. Like the color of the leaves, a lot of things are starting to change in our lives as well. Pretty soon our time in Manayunk is going to dry up, and we are going to float, every so gently, into the bustling lifestyle of Center City Philadelphia.
I've sort of dropped the ball on the apartment search reports. It just got to the
point where we were looking at so many lackluster places, it wasn't worth recalling it all for you. Thankfully, however, we did stumble across the apartment that was meant just for us. We've known about it for a while, but I didn't want to jump the gun on telling you until it felt more official. We signed the lease on Friday! It goes into effect on the 15th of this month, so we will have half of October to transition ourselves from here to there. I'm so excited about it. It is a beautiful, newly renovated apartment on South and 13th Street. The location is what we were looking for. We will be about two blocks from the subway stop, and three blocks from my work. I am so excited to be readily accessible to the farmer's markets, Reading Terminal, all the parks, and not to mention about 300 extra restaurant/shopping choices. Our experience of living in Philadelphia will completely change after we move. We'll be right in the mix of everything going on. I can't wait.
As far as the apartment itself is concerned, it will be a bit of an adjustment. It is
much smaller than what we are living in now.This is no surprise. It is all situated on one, single level. There are two sizable bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and the kitchen, living room and dining area are all mushed into one. The plus is that the ceilings are very tall, which lends itself to a space that is very open and airy. That's important when you have three animals running around. I think the biggest adjustment will actually be for them. I won't mind the reduction of space. When I think back to those days in that small studio apartment in San Francisco, I only have the warmest of thoughts. I'll post some pictures/videos pretty soon. I can't wait!
I have one other big announcement I want to share with you. I have been offered a
position to co-host a radio show on Temple's online radio station, W.H.I.P. I am so excited about it. I would greatly appreciate your support. The show will air every Wednesday and Friday morning between 9 and 10. The format is something like The View. I will join three ladies and we will all chat about hot topics, current events and etc. The four of us come from different backgrounds and have a plethora of different view points to bring to the table. Our first show will be this Wednesday. Please stop by the website to listen if you ever have the chance. We definitely need listeners so we can compete for a better time slot next semester. It's easy to listen. Just stop by the WHIP website. You will find a link in the top right corner to listen to the show in either low or high quality. As for now, I think you can only listen to the show at the time it's being aired. Hopefully soon we will be able to save it, or create podcasts you can download on iTunes for later listening. I'm really excited about this. It is right in line with what I would like to do someday. Stop by to support us!!

The Bitch is Back!
Hey, Bloggy Friends!
I hope everyone is doing well today. It's starting to get chilly here in Philly. Wow. I feel like it went straight from summer to winter. Ok, it's not that bad, but it's pretty darn cold. I have a very busy week ahead of me, complete with an exam, a speech and a paper due by Friday. This is definitely a hectic semester, but I have it all under control - just like a good diva should.
Speaking of diva, our good pal, Bloggy Friend Bill, has posted a new video about his favorite diva - Maria Callas. Once again, he knocks it out of the park. Good job, Girl! You can watch it below.
Are you excited about the debates tonight? I am. I noticed today that we only have 28 days left until the election. How exciting! From the reports, polls and predictions I've seen, Obama pretty much as it in the bag. But we shouldn't, as my Mammommy used to say, count our chickens before they hatch! It is looking good, though.

Cinco De Madonna!
Hello.Hey, Bloggy Friends!
I hope you guys had an awesome weekend and are geared up for a fabulous week. From what I see on a lot of your blogs, you have a lot going on in the coming weeks. Mimi is moving into her new chalet in Nashville and was just voted #1 trainer at work. Eddie and Monica took trips back to KY and Tracie is finishing up projects as she tries to conquer her fear of spiders. I haven't heard much from Bloggy Friend Bill lately, but I'm sure he's somewhere having a glass of wine and being a diva! I guess it's the season to have a lot going on, because I'm sure feelin' it too, Bloggy Friends!
As I told you before I just finished up my semester of class time! I am so glad to have that behind me. I now have two weeks of studying and paper writing in preparation for finals. I will finally wipe my hands clean of my Spring 2008 semester at Temple University next Wednesday around 4 o'clock. I can't wait! I shouldn't complain, though. It has been a great semester and my workload hasn't been THAT terrible. I am also blessed in the fact that I have been provided ample time to finish everything and prepare for exams. I really should just shut my mouth and count my blessings!
We had a great weekend. On Saturday we took a trip to the Italian Market Place in South Philly. We heard lots about it before we came, but have just now taken the chance to get over there. What a surprise it was. For a moment, as we walked along the sidewalk, it really felt like we had escaped to in Italy again. We browsed the Italian groceries, picked up fruit in the produce stands and stopped to have a delicious snack of fresh mozzarella and pesto. It was a fantastic afternoon for both of us.
Later that night we headed to the movies with a few of my co-workers. We saw a funny flick called "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." It was a really cute movie. I totally recommend it if you are in the mood for silly, slightly sophisticated comedy. While I'm talking about comedy, I'll also mention that we saw Baby Mama last weekend. It was really cute, too. I love Tina Fey and am thrilled about the success she had with this film. Check them out, Bloggy Friends!
In music news: Madonna's new CD "Hard Candy" dropped last week and, once again, she delivers. I bought it on iTunes and really love it. If you liked Britney's latest album - then you'll really like this one. There are numerous upbeat dance songs that really get me In The Groove. Of course, like on all Madonna albums there are a few duds - but for the most part it's a really enjoyable listen. My favorite tracks so far are - "Candy Shop," "4 Minutes," "Give It To Me," "She's Not Me," and "Dance 2night." Check those out if you only want to buy a few select ones. Check it out!
Well, I guess that's about all the news I have for now. We go to KY to get Galileo in two weekends. At that point I will be out of school and so ready for a little break. Besides meeting him for the first time, I am really anxious to visit with family and friends for a few days. So get ready Puss!
Tomorrow is a big day in the election. Everyone close your pretty little eyes and say a soft prayer for Hillary! Also, for my Bloggy Friends in Indiana and North Carolina, get out and cast your vote!!! I would love to see her pull out some nice wins, or at least significantly narrow the gaps. Go Hillary!

Bloggy Friend Update! *Updated*

My friend Eddie has recently returned from a fabulous cruise. He has been blogging about it little by little as the week progresses. I am enjoying them quite immensely. The posts are fun and they are all accompanied by pictures! I have never been on a cruise before, so it's fun to read about the whole experience.
