Birthday Shout-Out: My Sister, Alexandra!

Hello.Hey, Bloggy Friends!

This is another one of my most favorite days of the year - the day my sister, Alexandra was born. Today she moves from her teenage years into the roaring 20's! I wish I could be there to help her celebrate.

Currently she is living with my mother in Lancaster, KY. She is in the midst of finishing up nursing school in Lexington. She has one of the biggest hearts I have ever known. I'm so proud of her to call her my sister. One of my favorite memories of her is when we were younger. I used to love messing with her hair. I would curl it with mom's curling iron, brush it out, or practice braiding. She was so little and hated to sit still long enough to let me do it. When she started school I used to wrap curlers in her hair before bedtime, and bless her heart, she would sleep in those uncomfortable things all night long. When she got up in the morning, the curlers were inevitably tangled up and falling out. Her hair would be a mess! Mom would be furious as she had to brush out all those tangles. I would keep doing it, though, and she would keep letting me. It seems so funny to me now that I look back.

I love you so much, Alex. I can't wait to get home and see you. Be good, be careful and be sure to follow your heart in whatever you decide to do.

Join me, Bloggy Friends, in wishing her the best birthday yet!

Love you all,

Joshie

You're so lucky! My sister would never let me play with her hair.

Happy Birthday Alex!

Happy birthday Alex! You know I don't think I recall meeting her. I certainly remember Derek, but don't think I remember meeting Alex. She sure is a looker.

Happy Birthday Alex!

I love your childhood stories Josh. Still thinking about you making that "viewing area" for you and your brother to watch the Oscars.

I used to make up my grandmother. I can remember it so vividly. The best part was when she'd look in the mirror and laugh. She had a warm, contralto laugh.

Yeah... Happy B-Day, Alex. You share a birthday with George Clooney.. me-ow

I love the hair story too... I had a cousin who let me play with her hair sometimes...and some of my girl cousins liked putting makeup on me... Obviously I didnt mind & there is actual photographic evidence of this floating around somewhere.

ohhh, brushing hair! I used to love doing it! I still like to a little, then I get bored with it. My grandma was a hairdresser so I had access to all her wigs, hair pieces, wig heads, combs, brushes, spray, etc.... did i have a blast! one good memory... my mom would always go get her hair "did" every Thursday nite. So, her mom, my grandma, would have that hair piece teased HIGH and ready to go! She would place it atop my mom's own hair, blend it in, and create the biggest , highest bee hive I had ever seen! When my mom would get into the car to drive home, she would, literally, have to bend over the steering wheel to drive, the hive was scraping the ceiling of the car so bad! crazy bitch! i guess this is where i get my love for BIG hair!!
