Carrboro: Such A Pleasant Surprise!

Hello.Hey, Bloggy Friends!

Yesterday was a fun and eventful day down here in Carrboro. Michael and Jeremy took us out to show us what the town is all about. We started out with a delicious breakfast at a local favorite called ELMO'S DINER. From there we strolled around a connected shopping area, then walked over to a local coop grocery store called WEAVER STREET MARKET. This place is fantastic, ya'll. The shelves are stocked full of health-minded food choices. There is also a salad bar, and an amazing bulk foods section. I love it so much. The people are so friendly, open-minded and beautiful here in Carrboro. I am pleasantly surprised.

After tooling around Main Street they took us to another part of town to an awesome antique store called, Branching Out. We had fun trying on hats and oogling over the beautiful items they had for sale. Directly behind the antique store was an amazing cafe called, caffé Driade. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is my favorite coffee shop ever. It is a quaint place hidden behind a tunnel of trees. Inside the decor verges on slightly swanky, and the coffee and wine selection is very impressive. There is an outdoor patio right outside, but if you are in the know there is a secret garden you can escape to to enjoy your tasty beverages. Luckily our guides were "in the know," so that is exactly where we headed. Boy, was my double espresso delicious. I believe it is the best one I've had since I lounged on the streets of Rome!

Later in the evening we picked up food to prepare at home for dinner. We had baked orange roughy (seasoned with rosemary and lemon), garlic mashed potatoes and roasted tomatoes. It was a delightful way to end the day. We spent the remaining hours before bedtime sipping sparking red wine and playing a game called APPLES TO APPLES. It was a lot of fun, I won the first round!

We are having a great time here in Carrboro so far. I am surprised at the urban, bohemian feel to the city. The locals seem to be extremely liberal and open-minded. I just don't realize there are parts of the south like this. There are a ton of local art stores, crunchy cafes and an abundance of health-minded eateries. Michael and Jeremy are the most gracious of hosts. They have a dog, named Frisco, who Galileo has become fast friends with. He outweighs him by about 40 lbs., but they are having a doggone good time rough housing all around us. He's been such a good boy. He's the perfect travel companion!

I hope you guys have a great day. I have attached a slideshow of pictures that I took yesterday. You can click on it for a closer look. I'll talk to you soon!

Love, Josh

You should have heard Gary and me here at the computer when we got to those pictures of Galileo sleeping on the sofa with the stuffy toy.

Your vacation looks FANTASTIC ... relaxing, enjoying an out-of-the-way spot, and having fun and being silly with friends. Perfect!

Why did your friends move to NC from San Francisco? I mean, was it a job thing or did they relocate out of love for the town/area? Seems like a good choice, whatever the motive!
